Athlete Belt Goal | Alex Goldmeier

The Arcade Belt Program

#highfivesathlete Alex Goldmeier Doubles Down on his Belt Goals

Take a look at the two belt goals completed by Alex:

Goal 2

Get back into skiing on a monoski!

In February 2018, Alex was skiing in upstate New York when he lost control in the trees and suffered multiple injuries to his thoracic spine, heart vessel, kidney, right clavicle, right wrist, ribs, right lung, and facial fractures along with a traumatic brain injury. Despite this long list of injuries, two surgeries and two weeks later, Alex would make his way out of the hospital. The drive and determination Alex has shown throughout his recovery is exactly why he’s crushing these belt goals!

This past winter Alex completed his second belt goal, getting back on the hill strapped into a monoski.

Spinal cord injuries can unfortunately happen to anyone and from anything and it shouldn’t stop me from doing something that Im passionate about!

With the help of Challenge Aspen, Alex was able to get in 4 days of skiing. Being a beginner again was a challenge at first, but Alex was able to ski on his own at the end of those four days. Being able to ski independently again proved that his accident didn’t have the upper hand anymore. In the face of fear, Alex came back to the sport that caused his injury, and accomplished his goal in style! But the goals don’t stop there…

Goal 3

Get back into tennis!

Alex didn’t just get back into tennis, he is winning in tennis! He competed in the Jana Hunsaker Wheelchair Tennis Tournament this past weekend, winning singles as well as being the runner up in the doubles .

To keep him busy during the summers, Alex is diving head first into tennis, and is committed to practicing the sport he loves. Not only is he going to work up to Division B, but he is aiming for Division A soon after that. He doesn’t just want to play in these divisions, he wants to win! With skiing in the winter and tennis in the summer, we can’t wait to see how Alex progresses in both!

The Arcade Belt Program was put in place to provide our athletes with a system for setting goals. Similar to a karate belt system, athletes move through the ranks when they complete goals they set for themselves and receive a belt with stars corresponding to the goal number they accomplish.
