While embarking on a routine beach scuba dive, Julie sustained a severe injury to her right lower leg. Julie was exiting the water when a large wave crashed on her from behind knocking her over with all the weight of the scuba gear on her back. She suffered multiple breaks to her right fibula, which caused damage to the peripheral nerve below the knee. Julie’s leg never fully recovered, and despite various treatments, amputation above the knee became the only option to alleviate the severe pain.
