HIGH FIVES ATHLETE RECEIVES EMPOWERMENT GRANT | Taylor Fiddyment

Truckee woman receives grant funding that has allowed her to travel like never before

Taylor Fiddyment received a freewheel modification from the High Fives Foundation. Now she’s in Africa on a mission trip.

(Truckee, Calif., September 15, 2016) – Truckee’s High Fives Foundation is awarding 22-year-old Taylor Fiddyment an Empowerment Grant for a freewheel modification for her wheelchair that will allow her access to terrain normally difficult for standard wheelchairs. The freewheel is attached to the front portion of the chair near her feet.

Taylor was injured in 2011, in an ATV accident that left her paralyzed. She has worked with the High Fives Foundation, receiving prior grants that have brought her skiing, rock climbing, personal training and physical therapy. Thanks to a new policy enacted by the Board of Directors, local athletes with life-altering injuries can now work out in the CR Johnson Healing Center for free with Head Trainer Jack Powell.

“They’ve turned my life-altering injury into more of a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Fiddyment.

She is currently in Rwanda until November on a Christian mission trip. This grant from the High Fives Foundation has helped her to attain a travel experience like this.

“Taylor is a positive light in the Truckee-Tahoe community, she works at Tahoe Forest Hospital and helps people on a daily basis,” said Roy Tuscany, Executive Director of the High Fives Foundation. “She is the best representative of High Fives that the organization could ask for.”
