Athlete Belt Goal | Candy Dungan

#highfivesathlete Candice Dungan luges to her second goal

Goal 2: Luge at the World Championship event!

You’ve seen many different sports featured on this blog and on High Five’s social channels. Mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, surfing; our athletes are really pushing the boundaries in so many different sports. But luge? Even though you may be unfamiliar with the sport, High Fives athlete Candace Dungan is deep in it with the wind at her back.

As described by Candice, you maneuver the luge through the leaning of your head and shoulders, as well as pushing on the side rails. Adaptive luge is still fairly new, with custom builds being made all the time. There are many freerides on closed courses that are set up around the country on the weekends to allow participants the freedom of riding without worrying about vehicle traffic. Hay bales are set up on the side of the road, an EMT is on site (although rarely used), and a U-Haul is on site to shuttle riders and their gear to the top.

It feels like a trophy every time I stand up or luge down a hill - just continually winning

Candice Dungan

Candice is always striving for new goals, so be on the look out for some of her future accomplishments! “I think that a little bit of win mixed with a little bit of ambition is a good place to find myself.”, Candice says. We couldn’t agree more. Keep crushing!

The Arcade Belt Program

The Arcade Belt Program was put in place to provide our athletes with a system for setting goals. Similar to a karate belt system, athletes move through the ranks when they complete goals they set for themselves and receive a belt with stars corresponding to the goal number they accomplish.
