The Arcade Belt Program
#highfivesathlete Erik Johnson is crushing his second Arcade Belt goal
Goal 2: Ski Tioga Pass & Virginia Lakes!
Erik’s first belt goal prepared him to do some serious skiing this past month, if you haven’t read it already, check it out here!
Erik and his wife have been seeking out late spring lines in the Sierra high country over the past couple of weeks, and boy did they get the goods. Take a trip from Reno, head south down Highway 395 for a few hours, and you’re dropped off at the base of some amazing lines.
The conditions finally lined up perfectly and we got first tracks off South Peak with 2-3 ft of fresh IN LATE MAY.Erik Johnson, after scoring late season POW
Starting off with South Peak near Virginia Lakes and then moving onto Tioga Pass, there were plenty of good turns to be had. Thanks to late May storms, Ellery Bowl and Gaylor Peak were holding amazing snow. Those same storms have kept Highway 120 through Tioga Pass closed for much of this spring. However, Yosemite National Park has just recently announced that starting on June 21, 2019 the pass will be open for a limited time every day. With plenty of snow still in the surrounding area, this will allow easy access for people like Erik to explore even deeper into the surrounding backcountry.
We can’t wait to see what Erik does next. Seeing what he’s done so far, I bet it will be amazing!
The Arcade Belt Program
The Arcade Belt Program was put in place to provide our athletes with a system for setting goals. Similar to a karate belt system, athletes move through the ranks when they complete goals they set for themselves and receive a belt with stars corresponding to the goal number they accomplish.
