Meet #HighFivesAthlete Kevin Cheung (Athlete #85) from San Bruno, CA
In June 2018, the High Fives Foundation disbursed $74,539.86 to 24 Athlete’s across North America.
Kevin has been an Athlete of the High Fives Foundation since his 2015 injury, and in June he received his fifth grant for $1,000 to be used toward physical therapy so he can continue to work toward a full recovery.
In March 2015, Kevin was skiing at Squaw Valley and over-rotated a flip, while overshooting a jump in the Gold Coast terrain park. Kevin landed face first on the flats and sustained burst fractures at C1, C5, T4, T5, T6 and tore his transverse ligament next to his C1 vertebrae. Kevin attended Craig Hospital in Denver, CO, and has made an amazing recovery.
Originally in a wheelchair without use of his arms or legs, he is now walking and participating in many of the activities that he used to love.
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the High Fives Foundation. I am very grateful for everything they have done for me.
The High Fives Foundation supports injured outdoor action sports Athletes through grant funding to be used towards reaching their recovery goals. Since the Foundation’s January 2009 inception, the Empowerment Program Service has assisted 212 Athletes from 31 states in nine respective funding categories: Living expenses, insurance, travel, health, healing network, adaptive equipment, winter equipment, programs and “stoke” (positive energy, outlook and attitude).
