235 Empowerment Fund Grants Support Adaptive Equipment, Healing Resources, and Life-Changing Opportunities Across the Adaptive Sports Community
What does $925,450 in support look like? It looks like an adaptive mountain bike opening new trails, specialized equipment making everyday life more accessible, and athletes rediscovering the freedom to pursue what they love.
In 2026, the High Fives Foundation awarded $925,450 through 235 Empowerment Fund grants, continuing its mission to prevent life-changing injuries and provide resources and hope when they happen. Across two funding cycles, the national nonprofit awarded $500,500 in its first cycle and $424,950 in its second, supporting individuals navigating spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, amputations, and other mobility-limiting injuries.

“Awarding nearly $1 million in 2026 is a reflection of the incredible support from our community and our commitment to helping athletes continue moving forward. We’re proud to be part of each athlete’s journey and excited to see what they accomplish next.” Dani Trujillo, Director of Programs, High Fives Foundation
Adaptive equipment represented more than 70% of total funding, helping athletes access specialized gear designed to make outdoor recreation and everyday activities more accessible. From adaptive mountain bikes and skiing equipment to surfing and off-road adventures, the Empowerment Fund helps remove financial barriers that might otherwise keep athletes from pursuing their passions.
Of the 235 grants awarded in 2026, 112 went to new athletes and 123 to existing athletes, demonstrating the Foundation’s commitment to both welcoming new individuals into its community and providing continued support throughout their journeys.
For some athletes, a grant means returning to a sport they loved before their injury. For others, it means discovering an entirely new passion, gaining greater independence, or finding a community that understands their journey.
